SWE High School Seniors

If you're a high school senior interested in pursuing a career in engineering or computer science, several scholarship opportunities are available through the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and its regional sections. These scholarships are designed to support women entering these fields and can help alleviate the financial burden of higher education.


๐ŸŽ“ SWE National Scholarships

Emerging First Year Scholars Program

  • Eligibility: Open to students entering their first year of undergraduate study in Fall 2025.

  • Application Period: February 10, 2025 – March 31, 2025.

  • Details: This program offers scholarships to women pursuing undergraduate degrees in engineering, engineering technology, or related fields.

๐Ÿ“ Regional SWE Scholarships

Santa Clara Valley (SCV) SWE – California

  • Eligibility: High school seniors, college, and graduate students who identify as female and are pursuing a BS or MS in engineering or computer science full-time at accredited universities.

  • Application Deadline: February 28, 2025.

  • Reference Forms Due: March 21, 2025.

  • Award Timeline: Notifications in April 2025; Banquet on May 17, 2025; Payout in August/September 2025.

  • Details: Applicants must submit a current transcript, standardized test scores, employment history, activities, honors and awards, one essay, and two letters of recommendation.

Chicago Regional SWE – Illinois

  • Eligibility: Graduating high school seniors who identify as female and are pursuing a degree in engineering or computer science.

  • Application Deadline: April 15, 2025.

  • Details: Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, leadership, activities, and an essay. Recipients are expected to attend the Awards Reception in mid-June 2025.

Orange County SWE – California

  • Eligibility: High school seniors in Orange County, California, who identify as female and plan to pursue a degree in engineering, engineering technology, or computer science.

  • Details: Scholarships are awarded based on GPA, academic performance, work experience, community involvement, leadership, motivation, character, and plans to pursue a career in engineering.

Maine SWE – Maine

  • Eligibility: High school senior girls from Maine pursuing engineering or engineering technology studies at an accredited college.

  • Application Deadline: April 25, 2025.

  • Details: The scholarship value is over $1,000. Applicants must submit personal data, list of activities and work history, academic information, recommendation from a math or science teacher, and an essay focused on the applicant’s interest in engineering and plans.

Savannah Coastal Empire SWE – Georgia/South Carolina

  • Eligibility: High school seniors who identify as female and are intending to enroll at an ABET-accredited university for the upcoming school year, majoring in engineering, computing, or engineering technology.

  • Application Period: March 1st through March 31st, 2025.

  • Details: Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, leadership, activities, and an essay. Recipients are notified by May 31st, 2024.
